A 1000 WHALES TO BE SLAUGHTERED2008-Jan-7

The hunt is on

Japanese whaling vessels last month began their annual foray into the Southern Ocean for what Tokyo has long insisted is a “scientific research” programme. Nearly 1,000 whales are expected to be killed in a hunt that is expected to last until March.

Report from the Esperanza now looking for the whaling fleet  in the ice fields of the Southern Ocean:

All around the world, increasing numbers of people and governments are urging Japan to give up its whaling operations in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Back in Japan however, there is evidence that plans are emerging to build a brand new whaling factory ship which would extend whaling for decades to come.

If Japan wants to end the public and diplomatic opposition to whaling, then the entire hunt must be called off and a public statement must be made that there are no plans to build any more whaling ships.

Killing whales for fake science which nobody needs and whale meat which hardly anyone wants is an abuse of Japanese taxpayers’ money. To call the whaling programme “research” is a hoax. The International Whaling commission has declared that the results of the programme are currently of no use, and non-lethal alternatives exist for determining all of the programme objectives relevant to whale conservation. 4,000 tonnes of the whalemeat which the hunt produces remains unsold, giving the lie to the suggestion that the whale hunt could become a commercially sustainable activity.

The International Whaling Commission meeting backed a resolution calling for the eventual return of commercial whaling by a majority of just one vote. Can you believe this?

Japan, Norway and Iceland, which together kill over 2000 whales each year, are not the only countries voting in favor of whaling at the IWC meeting.  For years, Japan has been recruiting countries with no obvious interest in whaling to join the IWC and vote in its favor, by using development aid as an incentive.

Don't you agree it's time to boycot products from Japan, Iceland, Norway, Greenland (Denmark), and any other whaling countries?

Stop buying products from these countries today!

Shouldn't our governments be blocking imports from Japan, Iceland, Norway, Greenland (Denmark), and other whaling countries until they have stopped slaughtering the last whales of our planet?

Come on people, get with the program. Time is running for our flora, fauna and for ourselves!
